A limerick is a poem that originated in Limerick, Ireland at the end of the 19th century. It contains five anapestic lines with the rhyme scheme aabba. Lines 1,2 and 5 contain five feet, while lines 3 and four contain three.
Traditionally, limericks tell a story and bear a witty or humorous tone.
